The organizers claim that the 2012 auction, set to be held on February 28, is the largest collection of Academy Awards ever to go under hammer.

“This is the most significant collection of Oscars to ever be auctioned,” said the auctioneers Nate D Sanders. β€œIt contains Academy Awards from epic films such as Citizen Kaneand The Best Years of Our Lives.”

Film editing and musical score statuettes for the 1946 classic The Best Years of Our Lives and cinematographer Gregg Toland’s 1939 Oscar for the black and white movie Wuthering Heights are among the statuettes to be auctioned.

The Oscar Orson Welles won for writing his 1941 film Citizen Kane, the 1933 best picture Oscar for the Noel Coward adaptation Cavalcade will also go under hammer.

Welles’ own best screenplay Oscar for the 1941 movie fetched USD 861,542 at a Nate D Sanders auction in December.

The auction house has predicted the 15 Oscar statuettes to fetch a total of about USD 2000,000.
